Home working can be rewarding and reduce a lot of the stresses that come with commuting to a place of work each day but it is not without its pitfalls. You must be organised and try not to become too isolated.

1.       Designate a separate work space that is quiet and free from distractions.

2.       Make sure your technology is adequate an old lap top may not suffice if you are used to working from two screens.

3.       Get dressed, lounging around in your bed clothes with make you feel lethargic and undermine your productivity.

4.       Structure your day and have designated work periods this way you won’t drag your tasks out the whole day and end up working late into the evening.

5.       Reward yourself as you probably do in the workplace, once you’ve finished a particular task have a cuppa or catch up with the news.

6.       Try and get into a routine for example getting up and being at your work station for the same time each day.

7.       Start early, by no longer commuting the tasks you can do alone can be completed early on leaving the rest of the day to talk with colleagues and should mean an early finish.

8.       Avoid too many trips to the fridge try and stick to eating at meal times.

9.       Replace you commute with a period of exercise for example if your commute was an hour why not run for 30 minutes to clear your head and mentally prepare for the day.

10.   Communicate and check in with colleagues frequently don’t become too isolated.
